The Lenovo ThinkPad T410 is a great laptop for under $1,000 in the Lenovo outlet store. I received mine the other day and have been quite pleased with it.
The laptop is lightweight, sturdy and has sufficient battery life (with the 9 cell battery). The display is quite good. The laptop hinge is sturdy and feels like it will last a long time. So far, the laptop fan hasn’t even been noticeable and the laptop stays cool. The mouse pad and pointer and buttons are all well designed and well placed.
The speakers and built-in camera and microphone are more than adequate. The power-supply is small and light-weight making for a very nice experience overall. I prefer the old-school styling and mat finish on the monitor and I feel like this laptop will last 4-5 years minimum. I ordered it with Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit. So far so good.
The T410 keyboard is large and well organized with one exception. In the lower left of the keyboard, for some reason, they placed the Fn (Function) key.
I’m used to the Ctrl key being there so when I try to copy, cut, paste, it often doesn’t work b/c I am clicking the Fn key rather than the Ctrl key. Less significant, is their placement of the Delete key which is large enough but it is well out of the way in the upper right of the keyboard.
My other nitpick with the laptop is a lack of an SD card reader. They have plenty of other ports (USB, HDMI, Video out, etc., more than I’ll use but no SD card reader. Of course, I knew this before I purchased it but I’m just saying…
Overall, after using Dell laptops for a number of years, I’d say I’m very happy to be using a ThinkPad again. With a couple of modifications on the keyboard and a built in SD card reader, the Lenovo ThinkPad T410 would be a 5 star laptop. So, I give it 4.75 stars.
Also, I recommend the Lenovo Outlet store. Look out for additional specials on the site. If you’re not in a hurry to purchase, you can save $100 or $200 off your purchase price.
